1917, La Fayette nous voilà ! Les Etats-Unis entrent en guerre

A l’occasion du centenaire de la Grande Guerre, le musée franco-américain de Blérancourt, avec le concours du Comité du Centenaire, organise une exposition sur le thème de l’entrée en guerre des Américains en 1917 au cœur des collections permanentes dans un musée qui fût à l’origine le quartier général d’une organisation humanitaire américaine, le Comité américain pour les Régions Dévastées ou CARD.

Dès 1914, des centaines de volontaires américains se mobilisent pour aider la France, notamment l’American Field Service (AFS), l’escadrille Lafayette, l’American Fund for French Wounded (AFFW)... Leur engagement est humanitaire, sanitaire ou militaire. Avril 1917 marque un tournant. Le Président W. Wilson déclare : "La neutralité n'est plus ni possible, ni désirable quand il y va de la paix du monde et de la liberté des peuples.". Le Congrès américain vote l’entrée en guerre. Dès juillet 1917, les Sammies arrivent. « Nos sauveurs » écrit la presse française. Au travers d’œuvres et d'objets emblématiques, l'exposition évoque cette entrée en guerre, sans oublier l'action des militaires Nord-Amérindiens et des Afro-Américains.

On the occasion of the centenary of the Great War, the Franco-American Museum in Blérancourt, with the assistance of the Centennial Committee, organizes an exhibition on the theme of the American entry into the war in 1917 in the museum. It was originally the headquarters of an American humanitarian organization, the American Committee for Devastated France or ACDF.

As early as 1914, hundreds of American volunteers mobilized to help France, including the American Field Service (AFS), the Lafayette squadron, the American Fund for French Wounded (AFFW). Their commitment was humanitarian, sanitary or military. April 1917 marks a turning point. President W. Wilson declares: "Neutrality is no longer feasible or desirable where the peace of the world is involved and the freedom of its peoples…" The US Congress votes to enter the war. As early as July 1917, the Sammies arrived. "Our saviors," writes the French press. Through emblematic works and objects, the exhibition evokes this entry into the war, not to mention the action of the Native American and African-American military.
